The Xchange Student Ministry exists to partner with parents to raise their teens to be disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Pickens First Baptist Church Student Ministry is working to change the culture of our community. We want to see students come to Jesus, serve in the church and enter into adulthood equipped to be Christian leaders.
Life Groups
Youth Life Groups meet at 9:00 AM in the Xchange. We meet as a large group for prayer and announcements. We then divide up into the following small groups:
-
Middle School Co-Ed: Taught by Chip Dunn, Lauren Ashley, and Megan Shipman
-
High School Co-Ed: Taught by Lynn Williams, Jeremy Simmons, and Andrew Shipman
Our Youth Life Groups use the Gospel Project curriculum. The Gospel Project is a Christ-centered, chronological Bible study that will take your students on a three year journey through the storyline of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation to see how Christ connects with all of Scripture. Along the way, students will discover the big picture of what God has been doing throughout redemptive history, and what it means for them.
Students are searching for the truth, and what they desperately need is the hope of the gospel. The Gospel Project’s Christ-centered, chronological Bible studies are designed to continuously trace the need for redemption in the stories of the Bible and outline the promise of redemption, through the blood of Christ, to the students’ stories, too.
Sunday Nights
Our Sunday night gatherings at the Xchange run from 6:00 - 7:00 PM and provide students with a space to grow in faith through short-term small groups and carefully chosen topical studies. Each series is designed to help students apply biblical truth to real life - whether they are just beginning their walk with Jesus or seeking to go deeper in their faith.
A typical Sunday night looks like this:
-
6:00–6:10 PM – Announcements & connecting with students
-
6:10–7:00 PM – Small groups working through topical, Bible-based studies that invite discussion, questions, and real-life application
-
After 7:00 PM – Food & fellowship (we provide snacks or simple meals such as popcorn, pizza rolls, tacos, spaghetti, and more)
Through this structure, we create an environment where students can ask honest questions, wrestle with truth, and grow in their relationship with Christ. Sunday nights are a place for meaningful conversations, authentic community, and practical discipleship that helps students live out their faith every day.
Wednesday Nights
Our Wednesday night gatherings are designed to help students connect with one another and grow deeper in their understanding of God’s Word. We provide pizza from 6:00 - 6:30 PM to make things easier for busy families, and then we move into a time of community and teaching.
A typical Wednesday night looks like this:
-
6:00–6:30 PM – Pizza & hangout time
-
6:30–6:40 PM – Announcements & student connection
-
6:40–7:00 PM – Games for fun and fellowship
-
7:00–7:30 PM – In-depth, exegetical teaching that walks through one book of the Bible at a time, helping students engage with Scripture in a meaningful way
While Wednesdays focus on relevant issues and practical application - such as relationships, current events, and the challenges students face today - the teaching is rooted in a careful, verse-by-verse study of God’s Word.
Through both our Sunday and Wednesday gatherings, our goal is to create a welcoming, Christ-centered space where students can grow in their faith, build lasting friendships, and deepen their understanding of the Bible.
